History

The IditaFAT was established in 2015 by Pat (aka Uncle Pat) McFalls and Tom (aka Stickboy) Hall. Both were looking for a way to give back to the Winona Forest Recreation Association (WFRA) a non-profit organization that maintains and grooms Winona State Forest trails on the Tug Hill Plateau near Mannsville, N.Y. They had no sponsors but they had a dream.

In the very first year, renowned endurance cyclist and 7 time Shenandoah Mountain 100 finisher, A.J. Mooney, not only participated but he won the race. Mooney quickly elevated the IditaFAT by brining both national exposure and credibility to the event. The first year also brought out well-known cyclist, Helene Schmid, who is the only four-time women’s champion on the long course. Since then, the IditaFAT has attracted elite cyclists from all over the world. In fact, the IditaFAT has evolved into one of the Northeast’s premier fat bike races and has been named one of the coolest races around by Pink Bikes.

Last year, Uncle Pat and Stickboy created the “Festival of Flakes” weekend which features both our annual IditaFAT bike race and the annual SnoFatShu race offering winter enthusiasts and families an unparalleled opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle while having fun!
